Research Projects

At Sydney Islamic Business School, our research projects aim to explore key areas of Islamic business practices and contribute meaningful insights to both academia and industry.

Expanding the Role of Islamic Finance Institutions in Australia’s Financial Sector: This project focuses on increasing the impact of Islamic finance institutions within Australia’s financial landscape. We will explore modern, innovative approaches to overcoming the regulatory, economic, and market challenges these institutions face. The research aims to identify new opportunities for growth, including the development of Shariah-compliant financial products and expanding investor interest, both within the Muslim community and beyond. Our goal is to create practical strategies for enhancing Islamic finance’s integration into Australia’s financial ecosystem, ensuring it meets the evolving needs of the market while adhering to Islamic principles.

Assessing the Integration of Islamic Finance in Australia’s Top 5 Banks : This project investigates the potential for integrating Islamic finance products and services within Australia’s top five banks. By examining the current market landscape and the challenges faced by conventional banks, the research will explore how these institutions can diversify their offerings by incorporating Shariah-compliant solutions. The project will analyze the demand for Islamic financial products, the regulatory requirements for their implementation, and the strategies for educating both the public and bank employees about Islamic finance principles. Ultimately, the goal is to outline a roadmap for Australia’s leading banks to successfully integrate Islamic finance, fostering greater inclusivity and offering ethical financial solutions to a broader audience.

Enhancing Sustainability and Ethical Investment Practices in Australia’s Superannuation Funds through Islamic Finance Principles: This project explores the integration of Islamic finance principles into Australia’s superannuation (super) funds, focusing on sustainable and ethical investment practices. The research examines how Shariah-compliant investment strategies can align with Australia’s growing demand for ethical and socially responsible investments. It evaluates the potential benefits of incorporating Islamic finance principles, such as avoiding interest-based investments and focusing on industries aligned with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria. The goal is to provide actionable insights for superannuation funds to incorporate ethical finance solutions, enabling better returns for investors while adhering to Islamic values and contributing to a more sustainable future.

Empowering Australian Muslim Youth through Islamic Entrepreneurship and Innovation: This project explores the role of Islamic entrepreneurship in empowering Australian Muslim youth and fostering innovation within their communities. The research focuses on identifying the challenges and opportunities for young Muslim entrepreneurs in Australia, including access to funding, mentorship, and market opportunities. By examining the intersection of Islamic values and entrepreneurship, the project will highlight how these young entrepreneurs can integrate ethical business practices and innovative ideas in sectors like technology, social enterprises, and sustainable industries. The goal is to create a framework for supporting Muslim youth in pursuing entrepreneurship, promoting economic empowerment, and contributing to Australia’s diverse business landscape while staying true to Islamic principles.
